The crockpot has gotten a bad rap for being this strange cooking tool that is only put in place by mothers and housewives. This is funny to me because the “housewife” is disappearing yet the crockpot is still putting out incredible meals.
Employing the crockpot for slow and low cooking can change the way you prepare food! It can literally alter your entire menus of dinners at home. Suddenly, being pressed to get a meal done in minutes goes away and the crockpot meal can be allowed to simmer for hours at a time.
The crockpot is also tremendously safe. There are no other means of slow cooking that you would feel comfortable leaving on in your home. Many people put meat and vegetables in the crockpot all day while they are at work.
That is not to say there cannot be a disaster but it’s very rare.
Using a crockpot will allow you to get processed foods out of your diet. You will get used to dumping some great hardy vegetables into the crockpot and allowing them to become something delicious.
The types of meats you eat will change, too! It’s such a great way to change from quick-fix foods to eating real food again.
Tender cuts of meat are more expensive. There is a reason for that. The opposite is true about tougher cuts of meat. Tough cuts of meat require more time and slow cooking to become something delicious. Still, they can be just as delicious if not more delicious.
So many Americans do not understand the fundamentals of cooking and that is why we need inventions like the crockpot. If you go buy a couple of good steaks it’s gonna run you over $30 in the supermarket. You can buy something like a lamb shank or a pork roast and save tons of money while still eating something delicious.
