Walther’s PDP is the new duty handgun for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). FDACS will use both the full-size and compact versions depending on the needs of the officer.

PDP Compact

The PDP is a striker-fired, polymer frame pistol. The full-size model is available with a 4-inch, 4.5-inch, or 5-inch barrel, and the compact model has a 4-inch or 5-inch barrel. Standard PDP magazine capacity is 18 rounds in the full-size version or 15 rounds in the compact version. All models are optics-ready and have accessory rails for weapon lights.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services enforces a wide array of laws. Within FDACS, the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement operates inspection stations along the state’s borders with uniformed officers. The Bureau of Investigative Services investigates cases ranging from telemarketing operations and pawnshops to crimes “involving farm equipment, pesticides, fertilizers, livestock, poultry, horticulture, aquaculture and citrus products.” If I had to guess, it seems like the full-size PDP would go to the uniformed officers, and the compact guns would go to the (probably plainclothes) investigators.

Many PDP variants are available for consumers, ranging from basic models to Pro SD suppressor-ready models. You can check out the full range of PDP models on Walther’s website.

From the manufacturer:

Walther Arms, Inc., in conjunction with their law enforcement distributor Shoot Straight Defense, is proud to announce the PDP as the official duty weapon of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). The FDACS works to promote Florida agriculture, protect the environment, safeguard consumers, and ensure the safety and wholesomeness of food. By choosing a mixture of the compact and full-size PDP models, each law enforcement officer has the opportunity to carry the PDP they are most comfortable with and confident in.
